About This Saree — Katan Silk with Tanchui Weave & Booti Pattern
This Teal Blue saree is part of Panaya's Katan Silk Collection. Katan silk is the most prized variety of Banarasi weaving — made from tightly twisted pure mulberry silk threads that give a crisp, structured drape with a natural golden sheen.
Tanchui weave is a rare and highly skilled Banarasi technique that uses multiple coloured silk threads in the weft to create a richly coloured, multi-tonal fabric. The name comes from Chinese weavers (Tan Choi) who originally introduced this style to Varanasi. It gives the saree a vibrant, jewel-like depth that stands apart from single-colour weaves. On a deep Teal Blue base, the Tanchui technique produces a stunning interplay of colour that is both bold and refined. Booti pattern refers to small, scattered floral or geometric motifs spread across the body of the saree — delicate, elegant, and timeless.
