About This Saree
This is a Blue Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4772) with a Bird Boota pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.
Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.
Bird Boota is among the rarest and most storied of all motif traditions in Banarasi heritage weaving. While the floral boota draws from the garden, the Bird Boota draws from something older and more resonant — the ancient vocabulary of birds in Indian and Persian artistic tradition, where every winged figure carries layers of meaning accumulated over centuries. The parrot, the peacock, the hansa, the mythical bird of paradise — each has its place in the Banarasi canon, and each demands of the weaver a mastery of form that goes beyond the geometric. To render a living creature in gold thread on silk — its wing outstretched, its body mid-flight, its tail feathers trailing — is an act of translation from the natural world into the woven one, and only the most skilled hands in Varanasi can do it justice. Placed across the body of the saree as individual bootas, each bird figure stands apart from its neighbours, self-contained and sovereign, yet together they create a surface animated by a sense of life and movement that no floral motif can quite replicate. On a deep, considered Blue base — the Blue of clear skies, of still water, of the vast and the unhurried — the gold Bird Boota motifs take on a quality that is nothing short of extraordinary. Birds in flight on a Blue ground: there is a poetry to this combination that sits at the very heart of the Banarasi tradition. The Kadwa weave ensures every wing, every feather, every curve of the bird's body is individually woven and cleanly finished — no loose threads, no blurred edges, only the precision that such a motif demands and deserves.

Blue Katan Silk Saree — Kadwa Bird Boota — Panaya Heritage
SKU 4772 is part of Panaya's Katan Silk Banarasi Saree collection. This Blue saree features the prestigious Kadwa weaving technique with a Bird Boota pattern — individual avian motifs rendered in fine gold or zari threads, each bird woven with extraordinary precision and placed across the body of the saree against a deep, serene Blue silk ground.
Bird Boota is not a pattern one finds easily — it belongs to a more rarefied tier of Banarasi craft, one that requires both the technical mastery of the Kadwa weave and the artistic ability to render a living form in gold thread. On Blue Katan Silk, the Bird Boota finds perhaps its most natural and most beautiful expression. Blue is the colour of the sky these birds inhabit — and on this ground, the gold figures do not merely decorate but seem to belong, as though the weaver has captured something true about the relationship between birds and the open air. A saree of uncommon artistry and lasting appeal, equally suited to weddings, festive occasions, and any gathering where the conversation about what one is wearing is one worth having.
Every Katan Silk saree from Panaya is handwoven in Varanasi by master weavers carrying generations of craft knowledge. All sarees carry the GI (Geographical Indication) tag and the Silk Mark certification issued by the Government of India.
