About This Saree

This is a Light Blue Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4297) with a Meena Jaal pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.

Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.

Meena Jaal is among the most intricate and revered patterns in Banarasi weaving. A continuous net-like lattice — Jaal — is spread across the entire body of the saree, with each intersection or cell filled with Meena, the art of enamelling colour directly into the woven thread using coloured silk. The result is a seamless, all-over pattern of extraordinary richness: every inch of the fabric alive with colour and detail. On a serene Light Blue base — soft, cool, and luminous — the Meena Jaal creates an almost jewel-like effect, the coloured meena work shimmering against the pale silk like sunlight on still water. The Kadwa weave ensures every cell of the Jaal is cleanly cut and individually woven — no loose threads on the reverse, sharp edges, and a finish that endures for decades.
