About This Saree

This is a Purple Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4340) with a Jaal pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.

Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.

Jaal — meaning net or lattice — is one of the most iconic all-over patterns in the Banarasi weaving tradition. A continuous interlocking network of fine lines and geometric forms is spread seamlessly across the entire body of the saree, creating a surface of unbroken, hypnotic beauty. Each cell of the lattice is woven with exacting precision in gold or zari thread, producing a texture that catches light at every angle. On a deep, royal Purple base — a colour long associated with nobility and spiritual depth in Indian textile heritage — the gold Jaal takes on an almost regal quality: luminous against the dark ground, bold yet intricate. The Kadwa weave ensures every intersection of the Jaal is cleanly cut and individually woven — no loose threads on the reverse, crisp edges, and a finish that endures for decades.
