THE SILK OF VARANASI

A THREAD THROUGH HISTORY

Banarasi Silk — also known as Benarasi Silk — is one of India's finest textiles, born in the sacred city of Varanasi.

With roots stretching back to the Mahabharata and the Buddhist scriptures of the first millennium, this silk carries centuries of India's cultural soul.

The Mughals glorified its weaving, adorning it with real gold and silver Zari work. Even today, Banarasi silk sarees remain among the finest traditional saris in the world.
INCREDIBLE VARIETIES, EXCLUSIVE RANGE

OUR BANARASI SAREES COME WITH A SEAL OF TRUST

01

KATAN SILK SAREE

The most celebrated Banarasi silk — known for exceptional softness and luminous shine.

Woven using pure Mulberry Silk in both warp and weft with 28–32 twists per inch, it is the gold standard of Banarasi weaving.
02

KORA SILK

A stiffer, more structured cousin to Katan silk — the gum is retained in the yarn, giving it a crisp, unbleached character.

Beautiful in its natural, raw form, Kora silk holds its shape magnificently.
03

TANCHOI SAREE

Called the "Dream Weave" of Banaras — Tanchoi uses 5–6 weft colors to create intricate all-over patterns of florals, peacocks, and parrots.

Each saree looks like a woven tapestry of silk poetry.
04

JAMDANI SAREE

Each motif (buti) is woven individually using small shuttles — it is embroidery done through weaving.

Known by color names: Shwetambari, Nilambari, Raktambari, and Pitambari.

WHY CHOOSE PANAYA

🎨

EXQUISITE DESIGNS & PATTERNS

Our in-house design team crafts exclusive patterns that blend centuries-old Mughal motifs, floral jhalas, and geometric zari work into contemporary masterpieces. No two Panaya sarees are ever the same.

DELICATE & SOFT FABRIC

We source only the finest Mulberry silk — pure, soft, and luminous. Every saree drapes like a second skin, carrying the lightness of silk and the depth of tradition in every yard of fabric.

🧵

ARTISTIC CRAFTSMANSHIP

Each saree is handloom woven by master weavers in Varanasi. The process is slow, deliberate, and deeply personal — taking days or even weeks per saree. This is craft as devotion, not just production.
