Varanasi to Dubai

A Varanasi loom, a Dubai wardrobe

Dubai is home to one of the largest Indian communities outside India, and wedding season, Diwali and community celebrations here rarely go by without a hand-woven silk saree taking centre stage. At The Panaya, we bring that tradition directly from the weaving lanes of Varanasi to wardrobes across the UAE, so you never have to compromise on authenticity just because you live thousands of kilometres from home.

The Panaya is not a reseller. We are Kamalya Textiles, based in Chowkaghat, Varanasi, working directly with karigar families in the weaving lanes of Lallapura, Madanpura, Alaipura and Jaitpura. Every Banarasi Saree we send to Dubai is woven by hand on a pit loom, in pure mulberry silk with real zari, and carries three separate certifications: the GI tag for Varanasi origin, the Silk Mark for silk purity, and the Handloom Mark for genuine hand weaving. Many of our Dubai customers first found us through family in India, and have since become repeat buyers themselves.

Because you are ordering from more than 2,000 kilometres away, we make the checking easy. Ask us for close-up photographs of the pallu, the border or the reverse of the fabric, or book a live video call from the workshop at a time that suits Dubai hours before you decide. Nothing is dispatched until you are completely sure.

Chosen for Dubai

Six weaves for every Dubai occasion

A structured Katan for the wedding hall, lighter Kora and Organza for daytime functions, and Tissue silk for the reception. Product images, prices and availability are pulled directly from Shopify.

Why Panaya

What you are actually buying

Power-loom copies are sold as Banarasi every day, in Dubai as much as anywhere. Here is how ours are different, and how you can check for yourself.

01 · CERTIFICATION

Three certifications, not a sticker

The GI tag confirms Varanasi origin, the Silk Mark confirms pure mulberry silk, and the Handloom Mark confirms it was woven by hand. We can show you the registration for any saree you are considering.

02 · DIRECT FROM LOOM

No middlemen between you and the karigar

We work with weaving families in Lallapura, Madanpura, Alaipura and Jaitpura — the same families for four generations. If you ask which household wove your saree, we will tell you.

03 · HANDWOVEN

Handwoven, with the marks to prove it

A single saree takes between two weeks and a month and a half on a pit loom. Turn it over and you will see slightly raised threads and small irregularities between motifs — the signature of hand weaving, absent on a machine copy.

04 · REAL ZARI

Zari that ages instead of shedding

Genuine zari feels faintly rough and metallic and darkens gently over the years. Plastic-coated imitation feels slippery and leaves a gold tint on your fingers. We will walk you through the test on a call.

05 · SEE BEFORE BUYING

A video call from the workshop

Buying silk this far from Varanasi should not be a leap of faith. We show you the drape, zari shine and true colour in daylight on WhatsApp video, timed to suit Dubai hours, and send extra photographs of any detail you ask for.

06 · HONEST PRICING

Priced by the weave, not the postcode

You pay the same in Dubai as a buyer standing in our Varanasi showroom. International shipping is calculated transparently at checkout, and the price reflects the silk, zari and hours on the loom.

Dubai, specifically

Weddings, Diwali, and Dubai's indoor wedding season

Dubai's Indian community is spread across Bur Dubai, Deira, Karama, Al Barsha, Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and International City, and there is rarely a quiet weekend on the community calendar. From engagement functions and mehendi evenings to grand hotel-ballroom weddings and Diwali celebrations at Global Village, a properly woven Banarasi Saree is still the piece most families reach for when the occasion matters.

Most events in Dubai are held indoors — in banquet halls, hotel ballrooms and air-conditioned community centres — which actually works in favour of heavier silk. A structured Katan or Tissue saree with real zari holds its pleats and catches the light beautifully under chandelier lighting. For daytime functions, mehendi mornings, or outdoor celebrations during Dubai's warmer months, lighter Kora, Organza or Georgette silk is easier to wear for a full day.

One practical note for shipping this far: silk travels well when packed correctly, but it should still be unwrapped from its transit packaging as soon as it arrives, aired briefly, and stored in cotton muslin rather than plastic. Dubai's air-conditioned interiors are generally kind to silk, but keep sarees away from direct AC vents and refold along a different line every few months.

  • Wedding & reception: Katan silk in red, maroon or wine, with heavy Kadwa or Shikargah zari work.
  • Sangeet & evening functions: Tissue silk and Meena Jaal weaves — light to wear and luminous under evening light.
  • Diwali & community events: Gold and cream Kora silk with fine booti work.
  • Mehendi & daytime functions: Organza and pastel Kora — sheer, crisp and easy to wear all day.
  • Gifting: A certified handwoven saree for a mother, sister or daughter-in-law.

Questions from Dubai

Before you order

Do you deliver Banarasi sarees to Dubai, and how long does it take?

Yes. We ship internationally to every area of Dubai, including Bur Dubai, Deira, Karama, Al Barsha, Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and International City, as well as to Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi. Orders are dispatched from our Varanasi workshop by tracked air courier and usually reach Dubai in 4–8 working days, with tracking shared as soon as the parcel leaves.

How do I know the Banarasi saree I buy in Dubai is genuine?

Every Panaya saree carries GI certification, the Silk Mark and the Handloom Mark — three separate government-recognised marks covering origin, silk purity and handloom weaving. Before you order we can show you the reverse of the fabric, the zari and the drape on a live video call timed to suit Dubai hours.

Will I need to pay customs duty or VAT on a Banarasi saree shipped to Dubai?

Personal shipments into the UAE are handled under Dubai Customs' standard import rules. Charges depend on the applicable rules and thresholds at the time of import. We include a correct commercial invoice with every parcel.

Which Banarasi silk suits Dubai's warm climate?

Most functions in Dubai take place indoors in air-conditioned halls and hotels, so a structured Katan or Tissue silk works beautifully for evening weddings and receptions. For outdoor daytime events, mehendi mornings or warmer months, lighter Kora, Organza or Georgette silk is easier to wear.

What does a genuine Banarasi saree cost for buyers in Dubai?

Prices vary according to silk, weave, zari coverage and craftsmanship. The live Shopify product pages display the current selling price for each saree, so use those prices rather than fixed conversion estimates.

Can I see the saree on a video call before ordering from Dubai?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 99802 45549 with your preferred Dubai time and we can arrange a live video call from our Varanasi workshop, show the saree in daylight and share extra photographs of the pallu, border and reverse side.
