A Little About Panaya

MANUFACTURER OF HERITAGE BANARASI SAREES

Established a century ago by the enterprising textile visionary Shree Brijpal Das Ji, PANAYA SAREES stands as a custodian of an age-old and artistic heritage. Currently operating under the esteemed Kamalya Textiles umbrella, the fourth generation under the PANAYA label ensures the preservation and continuation of Banaras' storied silk saree weaving tradition. With an in-house design team, PANAYA SAREES endeavors to create exclusive designs.
Banarasi Silk (also known as Benarasi Silk) is a fine variant of Silk originating from the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India. With a mention in the Mahabharata and in the Buddhist scriptures in the first millennium, Banarasi silk have its roots seeped into the rich cultural history of India. Mughals also tried their best to glorify the art of weaving and designing. It has actually been well known for its designing and gold as well as silver brocade or the “Zari“.The exquisite fabric was produced by wearing with warp & weft threads of different colors and often of different material. In the present days, Banarasi silk sarees are still considered to be one of finest traditional saris.

KATAN SILK SAREE

Katan silk is the most famous Silk Saree from Banaras, known for its Softness and Shine. It is woven using pure Mulberry Silk in both Warp and Weft. Technically, it is a Two-Ply twisted yarn of Mulberry Silk with 28-32 twists per inch (TPI).

KORA SILK

Kora Silk is the same as Katan silk, but the silk yarn used is without de-gumming. This means the gum is not completely removed from the yarn, making it stiff. That is why Kora silk is just a stiffer version of Katan silk. It can also be seen as unbleached Katan silk in both warp and weft.

TANCHOI SAREE

Tanchoi is a Dream Weave from Banaras. Most of us know it for the intricately woven pattern all over the Saree that charmingly carries the Shine of Silk thread. It is a weaving technique that uses a single or double warp and five or six colors in the weft. Floral patterns are most common in Tanchoi Sarees but sometimes we also see birds like peacocks and parrots woven in silk. Overall, these Sarees give the look of a Tapestry.

JAMDANI SAREE

Jamdani weave has each Buti woven individually using small shuttles in a floatless weave. It is like fine embroidery done using weaving. Traditionally, Jamdani saris use the shades of the same color, giving Saris the names of the primary color like Shwetambari for white, Nilambari for Blue, Raktambari for red, and Pitambari for yellow.
