A single saree takes between two weeks and a month and a half on a pit loom. Turn it over and you will see slightly raised threads and small irregularities between motifs — the signature of hand weaving, absent on a machine copy.
Genuine zari feels faintly rough and metallic and darkens gently over the years. Plastic-coated imitation feels slippery and leaves a gold tint on your fingers. We will walk you through the test on a call.

Toronto's climate is a real factor in what silk to choose. Winters are long, cold and dry, which changes what a saree should be rather than whether you should wear one. For a wedding reception or an indoor evening function through the colder months, heavier Katan and Tissue silk hold their pleats well and pair naturally with a shawl or jacket for the walk between the car and the venue. For a summer wedding, an outdoor daytime function, or a warm, humid July weekend, lighter Kora, Organza or Georgette silk is easier to wear for a full day without feeling heavy.
One practical note for shipping this far: silk travels well when packed correctly, but it should still be unwrapped from its transit packaging as soon as it arrives, aired briefly, and stored in cotton muslin rather than plastic. Toronto's forced-air winter heating is very drying on silk over time, so keep sarees away from direct heating vents and radiators, and refold along a different line every few months so the zari never creases permanently in one place.

Orders are dispatched from our Varanasi workshop by air courier and usually reach Toronto in 7–12 working days, with tracking shared as soon as the parcel leaves.

Low-value personal shipments into Canada are generally cleared with minimal or no additional charges, though this depends on current Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) duty and tax thresholds at the time of import, which can change.
