Varanasi to America
The United States is home to one of the largest Indian diaspora communities in the world, spread across enclaves like Edison and Jersey City in New Jersey, Artesia in California, Devon Avenue in Chicago and Hillcroft in Houston. Finding a saree in America has never been the hard part — Indian grocery plazas and boutique stretches in these neighborhoods carry plenty of stock every wedding and festival season. What is genuinely harder to find is a heavy handloom Banarasi in certified pure silk with real zari, chosen as one specific piece rather than picked from whatever a store happened to import that season.
That is the gap we exist to fill. The Panaya is Kamalya Textiles, based in Chowkaghat, Varanasi, working directly with karigar families in the weaving lanes of Lallapura, Madanpura, Alaipura and Jaitpura. Every Banarasi Saree we ship to the USA is woven by hand on a pit loom in pure mulberry silk with real zari, and carries three separate certifications: the GI tag for Varanasi origin, the Silk Mark for silk purity, and the Handloom Mark for genuine hand weaving.
The distance across the Atlantic and Pacific is real, and it means you cannot feel the fabric before it arrives — so we do the next best thing. Ask for close-ups of the pallu, the border or the reverse of the weave, or take a live video call from the workshop and inspect the saree yourself in daylight before anything is packed and sent your way.

Chosen for the USA

A Shikargah weave built motif by motif, in a maroon deep enough to hold its own under ballroom lighting. Firm pleats, real weight, meant to be kept.

Our checkout charges in Indian rupees, which is what US customers see at payment. The dollar figures are approximate — divide the rupee price by about eighty-eight for a rough conversion, then allow for your bank's foreign transaction fee and any duty that may apply on arrival.

The short version: if you need something tomorrow for a function this weekend, your nearest Indian boutique is the better call. If you are buying a wedding saree, an heirloom piece, or a higher-value saree, ordering direct gives you more choice and information. Give yourself enough time for international delivery.
The USA, specifically
The Indian-American wedding calendar runs long and heavy, concentrated through the cooler months from October to March and again through late spring. A single wedding weekend often calls for three or four different sarees: the mehendi, the sangeet, the wedding itself, and the reception.
All of that matters for timing. A heavy Kadwa or Shikargah piece cannot be rushed off a loom. If your date falls in wedding season or around Diwali, ordering well ahead gives room for weaving, international shipping, customs clearance and blouse tailoring.
Climate in the USA varies enormously. A structured Katan Banarasi Saree is best stored away from direct sunlight and in breathable cotton rather than sealed plastic.
