About This Saree
This is a Black Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4639) with a Boota pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.
Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.
Boota is one of the most enduring and celebrated motif traditions in Banarasi heritage weaving. Individual floral or foliate figures — drawn from the mango bud, the lotus in bloom, the curling tendril of a flowering vine — are placed across the body of the saree as standalone bootas, each one woven with a precision that only a master weaver of Varanasi can deliver. Their petals, veins, and contours emerge in fine gold or zari threads, each motif sitting on the fabric with a sculptural clarity that rewards close examination. On a Black base — absolute, unwavering, and without compromise — the gold Boota motifs do not merely decorate; they ignite. Black is the rarest and most commanding ground in all of Banarasi silk tradition. It absorbs every other colour around it and returns only the gold, making the zari work appear brighter, sharper, and more alive than on any other base. There is an authority to Black Katan that no other colour can replicate — it is worn by women who need no introduction and require no embellishment beyond the weave itself. The Kadwa technique ensures every boota is individually locked into the fabric — clean reverse, razor-sharp edges, and a structural integrity built to outlast generations.

Black Katan Silk Saree — Kadwa Boota — Panaya Heritage
SKU 4639 is part of Panaya's Katan Silk Banarasi Saree collection. This Black saree features the prestigious Kadwa weaving technique with a Boota pattern — individual floral and foliate motifs scattered across the saree body, each woven in fine gold or zari threads against a deep, absolute Black silk ground.
Black in Banarasi weaving is not commonplace — it is a statement of rare confidence and considered taste. In a tradition that has long celebrated the full spectrum of colour, Black stands apart precisely because it refuses to compete. It simply wins. The gold Boota pattern on Black Katan Silk produces one of the most visually arresting combinations in all of Indian handloom — a contrast so clean and so powerful that it needs nothing else. No heavy jewellery, no elaborate blouse, no elaborate styling — the saree itself is the statement. An extraordinary choice for evening events, receptions, formal occasions, and for any woman who has moved beyond fashion into personal style.
Every Katan Silk saree from Panaya is handwoven in Varanasi by master weavers carrying generations of craft knowledge. All sarees carry the GI (Geographical Indication) tag and the Silk Mark certification issued by the Government of India.
