The Wedding-Season Workhorse

An Indian wedding season is a logistics problem. Four functions in five days, a suitcase, a hotel room with no iron, chai served standing up, and photographs at every one of them. Pale sarees do not survive that week; deep ones do. The Bottle Green Art Silk Saree from The Panaya is built for exactly that stretch of the calendar — woven in Varanasi in Art Cotton Mix Silk to the same finishing standards as the rest of our Banarasi saree collection. A dark ground forgives a spill, a crease and a long day in a way a light one never will, and the blend packs and re-drapes without needing a full press between functions.
The Fabric: Art Cotton Mix Silk
Silk-like yarns over a cotton-mix base give the saree a structured fall that recovers well from folding — the practical property that matters when a saree travels. It pleats quickly without a mirror, sits securely through a long evening, and breathes better than a heavy Katan in a crowded hall. The soft matte finish keeps the deep green looking rich rather than glossy, and hides the light surface marks that a shiny fabric would show.
The Craftsmanship: Woven in the Varanasi Cluster
Produced in the same Varanasi weaving cluster as our finer silks and inspected to the same standard before packing: even selvedges, consistent motif placement across the field, secure zari-toned detailing and a clean reverse with no straggling floats. Secure zari matters especially on a saree meant for repeated wear — loose float ends are what catch on bangles and chairs — so the finishing checks here are about durability as much as appearance. The blouse piece is cut from matching Art Cotton Mix Silk from the same lot.
Design Inspiration: The Bottle Green Palette
Deep green has stood opposite maroon in the Banaras palette for generations — ceremonial without being bridal, formal without being severe, and appropriate at any point in a wedding week. It is also the most practical formal shade available: dark enough to carry a full day, traditional enough for the ceremony itself, and neutral enough that nobody will notice it is the second time this week. Gold is its default partner. Within our wider Banarasi saree range it is the most classical of our greens, and the one that asks least of the person wearing it.
Occasion & Styling Guide
• Wedding Weeks & Travel: Packs and re-drapes well, forgives a long day, and reads correctly at every function from the puja to the reception.
• Two Looks, One Saree: Gold jewellery and a gold blouse for the ceremony; silver or oxidised with a rani pink or mustard blouse for the evening.
• Festive & Puja Wear: Auspicious and formal, appropriate across ages.
• On Evening Light: Bottle green deepens towards near-black under low lighting. For a green that stays visibly green after dark, our teal is the better choice.

The Panaya Promise: Authenticity Guaranteed
Every Panaya saree is listed exactly as it is woven, at every price point. This is an art silk / blended mix saree — no inflated fabric claim, and no substitution between the piece described here and the piece that reaches your door. Each saree is sourced directly from our Varanasi weaving units and inspected for colour consistency, zari finish, fall and measurement before despatch, with the length, width and blouse piece confirmed against the specifications above. Very deep greens photograph close to black — the piece in your hands will read greener in daylight than it does on screen.

Heritage Care & Storage Instructions
• Cleaning: Dry clean for the first few washes to hold the depth and the zari finish; a mild cold hand-wash with a gentle detergent is safe thereafter. Wash separately — deep greens bleed onto lighter fabrics — and never bleach.
• Travel & Storage: Roll rather than fold for a suitcase; it creases far less. At home, store flat wrapped in a clean cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight and damp.
• Maintenance: Refold along different lines every few weeks to prevent permanent crease lines, which show sharply on dark shades, and press on low heat with a cotton cloth in between.
