A Deep Green That Stays Warm
SKU-47959
Depth and warmth rarely arrive together in a green. Bottle, forest and emerald all get their seriousness from blue, which is why they pair so naturally with silver and read a little cool against warm skin. Dark mehendi takes the opposite route — it deepens through olive and bronze instead, the colour of henna left on overnight. The Dark Mehendi Green Art Silk Saree from The Panaya is that unusual combination, woven in Varanasi in Art Cotton Mix Silk to the same finishing standards as the rest of our Banarasi saree collection. It has the formality of a deep shade and the flattery of a warm one, which is a genuinely rare pairing in occasion wear.
The Fabric: Art Cotton Mix Silk
Silk-like yarns over a cotton-mix base give the saree a weighted, structured fall — necessary on a dark ground, where the drape carries the look and there is no brightness to distract from it. The soft matte finish is what preserves the warmth: a glossy surface pushes deep greens towards a cold, bottle-like reading, while a muted weave lets the bronze and olive undertones stay visible. Comfortable through a long evening and quick to pleat.
The Craftsmanship: Woven in the Varanasi Cluster
Produced in the same Varanasi weaving cluster as our finer silks and inspected to the same standard before packing: even selvedges, consistent motif placement across the field, secure zari-toned detailing and a clean reverse with no straggling floats. Warm dark greens are among the hardest shades to keep steady across a full length — a small dye drift shows as a swing towards either brown or bottle rather than a change in depth — so colour consistency is the check that matters most here. The blouse piece is cut from matching Art Cotton Mix Silk from the same lot.
Design Inspiration: The Dark Mehendi Palette
This is henna at its darkest — the stain a day after the ceremony rather than the paste on the morning of it, somewhere between deep olive, moss and bronze. Its warmth changes what it partners with: where a bottle green calls for silver and cool contrasts, this takes gold, copper, rust and antique brass, and it flatters warm skin tones rather than sitting against them. Contrast blouses in mustard, rust, deep maroon or gold all belong; ivory lightens it for daytime. Within our wider Banarasi saree range it is the deepest of our warm greens — the evening counterpart to our lighter mehendi shade, and the warm answer to our bottle green.
Occasion & Styling Guide
• Evening Weddings & Receptions: Antique gold or copper jewellery against the warm dark ground — formal without the coolness of a bottle green.
• Mehendi & Sangeet Evenings: Sits naturally beside the rusts, mustards and marigolds these functions are decorated in.
• Festive & Puja Wear: Auspicious, formal and comfortable across long ceremonies.
• If You Suit Warm Tones: The deep green to choose over bottle or emerald — same depth, warmer against the skin.

The Panaya Promise: Authenticity Guaranteed
Every Panaya saree is listed exactly as it is woven, at every price point. This is an art silk / blended mix saree — no inflated fabric claim, and no substitution between the piece described here and the piece that reaches your door. Each saree is sourced directly from our Varanasi weaving units and inspected for colour consistency, zari finish, fall and measurement before despatch, with the length, width and blouse piece confirmed against the specifications above. Warm dark greens photograph unreliably — screens tend to render them either browner or colder than they appear in daylight.

Heritage Care & Storage Instructions
• Cleaning: Dry clean for the first few washes to hold the depth and the zari finish; a mild cold hand-wash with a gentle detergent is safe thereafter. Wash separately — deep greens bleed onto lighter fabrics — and never bleach, which strips the warm undertone and leaves the shade looking grey.
• Storage: Store flat, wrapped in a clean cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight — warm greens fade towards khaki under prolonged light — and away from damp.
• Maintenance: Refold along different lines every few weeks to prevent permanent crease lines, which show sharply on dark shades, and press on low heat with a cotton cloth in between.
