About This Saree
This is a Green Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4092) with a Boota pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.
Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.
Boota is one of the most cherished and time-honoured motif traditions in Banarasi heritage weaving. Individual floral or foliate figures — the unfurling petal, the nodding bud, the leaf caught mid-turn — are placed across the body of the saree as standalone bootas, each one a self-contained world of craft and intention. Rendered in fine gold or zari threads, every boota carries a weight and presence far beyond its size — precise in its outline, rich in its texture, and alive in the way only hand-woven gold can be. On a Green base — not the pale green of new growth nor the dark green of deep forest, but the full, unhesitating Green of the Indian festive tradition at its most confident — the gold Boota motifs find their most natural home. Green and gold is not merely a colour combination in Banarasi weaving; it is an understanding, a language spoken between the base silk and the zari that has been refined over centuries. Each boota on this Green ground seems to grow from the fabric itself, as though the weaver did not place it there but coaxed it into being. The Kadwa weave ensures every boota is cleanly cut and individually locked into the fabric — no loose threads on the reverse, sharp and enduring edges, a finish that time only improves.
