About This Saree
This is a Magenta Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4367) with a Meena Jaal pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.
Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.
Meena Jaal is among the most intricate and visually arresting traditions in Banarasi weaving. A continuous lattice of fine threads spreads across the entire body of the saree, and within each cell of this net — meena, the art of enamelling in silk — coloured threads are inlaid to create a surface that shimmers and shifts with every movement. The effect is not merely decorative; it is architectural. On a blazing Magenta base — vivid, unapologetic, and deeply festive — the Meena Jaal work takes on an almost jewel-like quality. The coloured inlay catches light differently from the surrounding silk, creating a living, breathing surface across the drape. Magenta carries with it an energy unlike any other — it is neither the weight of red nor the softness of pink, but something bolder, rarer, and entirely its own. The Kadwa weave locks every thread of the Jaal individually into place — clean reverse, no floating threads, and a precision that endures for decades.
