The One You Can Actually Relax In
SKU-48027
Anyone who has spent a wedding week in a pale saree knows the feeling: half the day is spent managing the cloth rather than enjoying the function. Turmeric on the sleeve at haldi, henna on the pallu, chai in a crowded room, marigold petals underfoot. A warm mid-green absorbs all of it — not because it cannot mark, but because its depth and warmth sit close to exactly the things that mark it. The Mehendi Green Art Silk Saree from The Panaya is woven in Varanasi in Art Cotton Mix Silk to the same finishing standards as the rest of our Banarasi saree collection, and it is the piece to wear on the days you would rather pay attention to the people than the drape.
The Fabric: Art Cotton Mix Silk
Silk-like yarns over a cotton-mix base give the saree a smooth fall with the breathability for a long function, and the blend takes handling better than a fine silk — it recovers from being sat in, leaned over and packed without needing a full press before the next event. The soft matte finish also helps: matte surfaces show marks and creases far less readily than glossy ones, which is a practical advantage over a whole wedding week rather than a single evening.
The Craftsmanship: Woven in the Varanasi Cluster
Produced in the same Varanasi weaving cluster as our finer silks and inspected to the same standard before packing: even selvedges, consistent motif placement across the field, secure zari-toned detailing and a clean reverse with no straggling floats. Secure zari matters particularly on a saree meant for busy, crowded functions — loose float ends are what catch on bangles, chairs and children — so the finishing checks here are about durability as much as appearance. The blouse piece is cut from matching Art Cotton Mix Silk from the same lot.
Design Inspiration: The Mehendi Palette
Warm mid-greens have always belonged to the working end of Indian festive dress — the shades worn by the people running the function rather than sitting at the centre of it, and none the less beautiful for that. Mehendi green flatters warm skin tones, holds up in strong daylight, and sits comfortably beside the yellows, marigolds and rusts that decorate most Indian ceremonies rather than fighting them. Gold and oxidised jewellery both suit it. Within our wider Banarasi saree range it is among the most practical shades we weave — festive enough for the occasion, forgiving enough for the whole day of it.
Occasion & Styling Guide
• Haldi & Mehendi Functions: The messiest mornings in the calendar, and the shade that handles them — gold or oxidised jewellery, mustard or gold blouse.
• For the Family Running the Event: Sisters, cousins and aunts on their feet all day — comfortable, forgiving and still properly festive in photographs.
• Teej & Daytime Puja: Auspicious, breathable and appropriate for long ceremonies.
• Contrast Styling: Rust, mustard and deep maroon warm it; ivory lightens it for a brunch or afternoon function.

The Panaya Promise: Authenticity Guaranteed
Every Panaya saree is listed exactly as it is woven, at every price point. This is an art silk / blended mix saree — no inflated fabric claim, and no substitution between the piece described here and the piece that reaches your door. Each saree is sourced directly from our Varanasi weaving units and inspected for colour consistency, zari finish, fall and measurement before despatch, with the length, width and blouse piece confirmed against the specifications above. Warm mid-greens photograph inconsistently — screens push them towards either olive or gold depending on the lighting.

Heritage Care & Storage Instructions
• Cleaning: Dry clean for the first few washes to hold the tone and the zari finish; a mild cold hand-wash with a gentle detergent is safe thereafter. Treat turmeric and henna marks promptly rather than letting them set — both stain permanently once dry. Avoid bleach, which strips the yellow component and leaves the shade grey.
• Storage: Store flat, wrapped in a clean cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight — warm greens fade towards khaki under prolonged light — and away from damp.
• Maintenance: Refold along different lines every few weeks to prevent permanent crease lines, and press on low heat with a cotton cloth in between.
