About This Saree

This is a Yellow Katan Silk Banarasi Saree (SKU 4795) with a Meena Jaal pattern woven using the Kadwa technique. It is handwoven in Varanasi by skilled weavers who have been practising this craft for generations.

Katan Silk is a tightly twisted, pure mulberry silk. It gives the saree a firm body, a clean drape, and a natural sheen. It is one of the finest silks used in Banarasi weaving.

Meena Jaal is the summit of complexity in Banarasi pattern weaving — a tradition that asks everything of the weaver and returns, in kind, a fabric of unmatched visual depth and richness. The Jaal comes first — an unbroken geometric lattice of gold or zari threads laid down thread by thread, intersection by intersection, across every inch of the saree body without pause or interruption. This alone would be enough for most weaves. But in the Meena Jaal tradition, the lattice is only the beginning. Within each cell of the completed Jaal, coloured silk threads are drawn by hand — the meena work — filling the geometric voids with colour, building a second layer of visual information into a surface that already carries extraordinary complexity. What results is a fabric that operates on multiple levels simultaneously: the silk ground below, the coloured meena within, and the gold lattice above — three distinct layers of craft fused into a single seamless surface that shifts and shimmers with every movement. On a Yellow base — the colour of turmeric and marigold, of haldi ceremonies and harvest festivals, of sunlight made textile — the Meena Jaal achieves something that no other colour quite manages. Yellow is inherently luminous; it does not absorb light but reflects it, and on Katan Silk, which already carries its own natural sheen, this luminosity is amplified until the saree seems almost to glow from within. The coloured meena inlay, set within a gold lattice on a Yellow ground, creates a surface of warmth and radiance that is unlike anything else in the Banarasi tradition. The Kadwa weave holds every element of this intricate composition with absolute precision — clean on the reverse, unwavering in its geometry, and built for decades of wearing.

Yellow Katan Silk Saree — Kadwa Meena Jaal — Panaya Heritage

SKU 4795 is part of Panaya's Katan Silk Banarasi Saree collection. This Yellow saree features the prestigious Kadwa weaving technique with a Meena Jaal pattern — a full-body gold lattice with coloured silk inlay woven across every inch of the fabric, set against a warm, radiant Yellow silk ground that glows with the natural luminosity of pure Katan Silk.

Yellow carries within it a festive energy that is entirely and uniquely its own — it is the colour of auspicious beginnings, of celebrations rooted in the oldest Indian traditions, of occasions where joy is not just felt but worn. In the context of Meena Jaal weaving, Yellow is a ground of exceptional generosity — it gives warmth to the gold lattice, depth to the coloured meena inlay, and a radiance to the overall surface that makes this saree one of the most visually alive pieces in the entire Katan Silk collection. A natural and perfect choice for haldi ceremonies, morning pujas, festive gatherings, and for any bride or wedding guest who wants to carry the warmth of celebration in the very fabric she wears.

Every Katan Silk saree from Panaya is handwoven in Varanasi by master weavers carrying generations of craft knowledge. All sarees carry the GI (Geographical Indication) tag and the Silk Mark certification issued by the Government of India.
