Every Banarasi Saree we send to the UK is woven by hand on a pit loom, in pure mulberry silk with real zari, and carries three separate certifications: the GI tag for Varanasi origin, the Silk Mark for silk purity, and the Handloom Mark for genuine hand weaving. Many of our UK customers first found us through family in India, and have since become repeat buyers for every wedding season since.

We work with weaving families in Lallapura, Madanpura, Alaipura and Jaitpura — the same families for four generations. If you ask which household wove your saree, we will tell you.
A single saree takes between two weeks and a month and a half on a pit loom. Turn it over and you will see slightly raised threads and small irregularities between motifs — the signature of hand weaving, absent on a machine copy.
Genuine zari feels faintly rough and metallic and darkens gently over the years. Plastic-coated imitation feels slippery and leaves a gold tint on your fingers. We will walk you through the test on a call.
Buying silk this far from Varanasi should not be a leap of faith. We show you the drape, the zari shine and the true colour in daylight on WhatsApp video, timed to suit UK hours, and send extra photographs of any detail you ask for.

The United Kingdom is home to one of the largest South Asian communities outside India, with major hubs in London's Southall, Wembley and Harrow, Birmingham's Soho Road and Alum Rock, Leicester's Belgrave Road ("the Golden Mile"), Manchester's Rusholme and Cheetham Hill, and Bradford's diaspora heartland. From engagement functions in Harrow to Diwali celebrations on Leicester's Golden Mile and a wedding season that runs busiest through the spring and summer months, there is rarely a quiet weekend on the community calendar anywhere in the country — and a properly woven Banarasi Saree is still the piece most families reach for when the occasion matters.
Weather across the UK is mild but changeable, so what a silk saree should be depends more on the venue than the calendar or the city. For a wedding reception or an indoor evening function, heavier Katan and Tissue silk hold their pleats well and pair naturally with a shawl or jacket for the walk to the car. For a daytime function, a Diwali gathering, or a marquee wedding through the warmer months, lighter Kora, Organza or Georgette silk is easier to wear for a full day without feeling heavy.
One practical note for shipping this far: silk travels well when packed correctly, but it should still be unwrapped from its transit packaging as soon as it arrives, aired briefly, and stored in cotton muslin rather than plastic. Central heating through the UK's colder months can be harsh on silk over time, so keep sarees away from direct radiators and refold along a different line every few months so the zari never creases permanently in one place.

Orders are dispatched from our Varanasi workshop by air courier and usually reach UK addresses in 6–10 working days, with tracking shared as soon as the parcel leaves.
Every Panaya saree carries GI certification, the Silk Mark and the Handloom Mark — three separate government-recognised marks covering origin, silk purity and handloom weaving. Before you order we can show you the reverse of the fabric, the zari and the drape on a live video call timed to suit UK hours, and explain the back-weave and zari checks our weavers use.
Shipments into the UK can attract import VAT and, above certain value thresholds, customs duty, depending on current HMRC rules at the time your parcel arrives. We include a correct commercial invoice with every parcel and are happy to walk you through the current thresholds with you before you order.

Lightweight Organza and Georgette Banarasi sarees begin around ₹21,000 (roughly £200), Kora silk sits between ₹35,000 and ₹45,000 (roughly £335–£430), and handwoven Katan silk with heavy zari runs from ₹50,000 (roughly £475) upward depending on weave and zari coverage. Anything sold as pure silk with real zari at a fraction of this is almost certainly a power-loom copy.
