Every Banarasi Saree we send to Singapore is woven by hand on a pit loom, in pure mulberry silk with real zari, and carries three separate certifications: the GI tag for Varanasi origin, the Silk Mark for silk purity, and the Handloom Mark for genuine hand weaving. We work with weaving families in Lallapura, Madanpura, Alaipura and Jaitpura — the same families for four generations. If you ask which household wove your saree, we will tell you.
A single saree takes between two weeks and a month and a half on a pit loom. Turn it over and you will see slightly raised threads and small irregularities between motifs — the signature of hand weaving, absent on a machine copy.
Genuine zari feels faintly rough and metallic and darkens gently over the years. Plastic-coated imitation feels slippery and leaves a gold tint on your fingers. We will walk you through the test on a call.
Buying silk this far from Varanasi should not be a leap of faith. We show you the drape, the zari shine and the true colour in daylight on WhatsApp video, timed to suit Singapore hours, and send extra photographs of any detail you ask for.

From engagement functions in Serangoon to Deepavali celebrations along the light-strung streets of Little India, Thaipusam processions, and a wedding calendar that runs steadily through the year rather than a single season, there is rarely a quiet weekend for the community — and a properly woven Banarasi Saree is still the piece most families reach for when the occasion matters.
Singapore's climate is a real factor when choosing a weave, unlike markets with distinct seasons. The weather stays warm and humid year-round, so lighter Kora, Organza and Georgette silk breathe better for outdoor functions, temple processions and daytime events. For air-conditioned banquet halls, evening receptions and indoor wedding functions, heavier Katan and Tissue silk hold their pleats beautifully under function-room lighting without feeling too warm to wear.
One practical note for shipping this far: silk travels well when packed correctly, but it should still be unwrapped from its transit packaging as soon as it arrives, aired briefly, and stored in cotton muslin rather than plastic. Singapore's high humidity can encourage mildew if silk is kept sealed for long stretches, so air your saree every few months, keep it away from direct air-conditioning vents, and refold along a different line each time so the zari never creases permanently in one place.

Shipments into Singapore can attract GST under current Singapore Customs and IRAS rules for goods imported by post or courier, regardless of value. We include a correct commercial invoice with every parcel and are happy to walk you through how this is typically calculated before you order.

For air-conditioned banquet-hall weddings, receptions, and evening celebrations around Deepavali, structured Katan and luminous Tissue silk hold their drape beautifully under indoor lighting.
Lightweight Organza and Georgette Banarasi sarees begin around ₹21,000 (roughly SGD 280), Kora silk sits between ₹35,000 and ₹45,000 (roughly SGD 465–600), and handwoven Katan silk with heavy zari runs from ₹50,000 (roughly SGD 665) upward depending on weave and zari coverage. Anything sold as pure silk with real zari at a fraction of this is almost certainly a power-loom copy.
