Purple
Banarasi Silk Saree
Purple has stood for royalty since ancient times — from Tyrian dye courts once paid in silver for, to the deep violet silks Indian nobility favoured for durbars. In Katan silk, that same richness now drapes every fold.
Why purple has always meant status
Across cultures, purple dye was once rarer and costlier than gold, which is why it became a colour reserved for royalty and the elite. In Banarasi weaving, that same association carries through — a purple saree still reads as considered, not casual.
Purple, Dark Purple, or Lavender?
"Purple" covers a wide range in Banarasi weaving. Here is how our three closest shades differ, so you order the exact tone you have in mind.
Purple
A true, balanced purple — not too pink, not too blue. Works for both daytime functions and evening events.
Dark Purple
A deeper, near-aubergine shade. Reads as formal and dramatic — the pick for receptions and sangeet nights.
Lavender
A soft, pastel purple. Lighter and cooler in tone — suited to daytime weddings and mehndi functions.

What to pair with a purple Banarasi saree
The right blouse and jewellery can change how the whole saree reads. Here is what tends to work.
Blouse Colour
Gold or mustard for a traditional look, emerald green for contrast, or a self-tone purple blouse for a monochrome finish.
Jewellery
Antique gold or kundan jewellery brings out the zari. For lavender, silver or pearl jewellery keeps the look soft.
Occasion
Dark Purple for receptions and sangeet, true Purple for daytime family functions, Lavender for mehndi and brunches.
Common questions about purple Banarasi silk
Does purple silk fade or change colour over time?
Genuine silk holds dye well if dry cleaned and kept away from direct sunlight. Cheaper synthetic blends are more likely to fade — one more reason to check for Silk Mark certification before buying.
Is Lavender considered a purple shade or a separate colour?
Lavender is a pale tint of purple. We list it separately because it styles very differently from true Purple or Dark Purple — lighter, softer, and better suited to daytime events.
Will the purple in photos match the actual saree?
We photograph each saree in natural daylight to keep colours accurate, but screens vary. If you want extra certainty, message us on WhatsApp at +91 9980245549 for a quick video call.
How do I store a purple Katan silk saree?
Fold it along the original creases, wrap it in muslin cloth, and store away from direct light. Refold every few months so the fabric does not crease permanently along one line.
