Every Banarasi Saree we send to Hyderabad is woven by hand on a pit loom in pure mulberry silk with real zari, and carries three separate certifications: the GI tag for Varanasi origin, the Silk Mark for silk purity, and the Handloom Mark for genuine hand weaving.

No middlemen between you and the karigar
We work with the same weaving families in Lallapura, Madanpura, Alaipura and Jaitpura across four generations. Ask which household wove your saree and we will tell you.
Handwoven, with the marks to prove it
One saree takes two weeks to a month and a half on a pit loom. Turn it over: slightly raised threads and small variations between motifs are the signature of hand weaving, and a machine copy has neither.
Zari that ages instead of shedding
Genuine zari feels faintly rough and metallic and darkens gently over years of wear. Plastic-coated imitation feels slippery and leaves a gold tint on your fingers.

Banarasi, or Gadwal & Pochampally?
The question every Telangana family eventually asks, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch. All three are genuine handwoven silk traditions with GI protection. They are simply built differently.

What we hear most often from Hyderabad families is that a Gadwal or Pochampally covers the daytime, ritual-heavy events, while a Banarasi Katan silk is brought in for the evening functions — the sangeet, the reception, the going-away saree — where a denser, more photograph-ready zari surface is wanted and the extra weight is no longer a concern.
Hyderabad, specifically
The wedding calendar, Bathukamma, and getting the timing right
Hyderabad's wedding season runs busiest from October through February, once the monsoon eases and the weather turns kind to silk, with a second smaller peak around Ugadi in spring. Because a heavy Katan piece with Kadwa or Shikargah work takes two to six weeks on the loom, we recommend ordering six to eight weeks ahead of a locked pellikuthuru or reception date — the more intricate sarees are made to order and the good colours move fast in peak months.
Bathukamma and Bonalu, both centred on Hyderabad and the wider Telangana region, bring their own colour language — deep greens, yellows, oranges and reds are worn through the nine days of Bathukamma in particular, and a Katan Banarasi Saree in one of these shades works well for the evening gatherings, alongside the everyday cotton and Pochampally sarees worn through the festival's daytime rituals.
On colour more broadly, our Hyderabad orders lean towards maroon, red and peacock for weddings and Sankranti; gold and off-white for temple visits and Ugadi; and green, mehendi and yellow for Bathukamma and Bonalu. Do you deliver Banarasi sarees to Hyderabad, and how long does it take?

Banarasi or Gadwal — which should a Hyderabad bride choose?
Both are genuine handwoven silk traditions and neither replaces the other. Gadwal silk has a distinctive cotton body with a woven-on silk border and pallu, giving a light, structured drape suited to Telangana's warm months. A Banarasi Katan silk is silk through the body as well, with a denser zari surface and floral jaal, booti and Shikargah motifs. Many Hyderabad families keep the Gadwal or Pochampally for daytime rituals like Pellikuthuru and choose a Banarasi for the sangeet, reception or the bride's going-away look.
How do I check that a Banarasi saree is handwoven and not power-loom?
Turn the saree over. On a real handloom Banarasi the reverse looks close to the front, with slightly raised threads and a few loose ends, and the motifs vary a little from one repeat to the next. A power-loom copy has a flat, printed-looking back and every motif is identical. Real zari feels faintly rough and metallic; imitation zari feels slippery and can leave a gold tint on your fingers.
What does a genuine Banarasi saree cost in Hyderabad?
Georgette and Organza Banarasi sarees begin around ₹21,000, Kora and Tissue silk sit between ₹35,000 and ₹75,000, and handwoven Katan silk with heavy zari runs from ₹35,000 upward depending on the weave and how much of the surface the zari covers. Anything sold as pure silk with real zari below ₹8,000 is almost certainly a power-loom copy. The price is the same in Hyderabad as in our Varanasi showroom, and shipping is free.
